Here our dogs get a physical exam, and all papers for vaccinations and deworming are checked thoroughly. Thirty to forty veterinarians in groups of four to six will visit teams showing up today. Every musher can either have his own veterinary exam of all the dogs or come to this official vet check.

The race starts today
March 3 Frank will pull his snowhook about 12:25 this afternoon at the starting line of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
Today's leg of the race is all for show and to entertain people in Anchorage. Once the mushers get out of downtown and the team lets off a little steam, they slow down and chat with folks along the trail and with the Iditarider in the sled bag.
The course turns onto Cordova Street to leave downtown, then works its way through the University-Medical District and ends at the Campbell Airstrip. At the airstrip, Frank and his handlers will load the dogs and sled back into the trailer and return to Wasilla for the night.
The real race starts at 2 p.m. Sunday in Willow. Frank will head off into the wilds about 4:25 p.m.
Frank: bib 73
March 1 Frank drew bib No. 73 on Thursday night at the mushers' banquet, so he'll be starting near the end of the pack Saturday. He and his Iditarider will leave about 12:25 p.m.
